This course covers the history of science from roughly 1700 until the mid-twentieth century. Topics include:
Isaac Newton and his influence on eighteenth century science.
The transformation of the Newtonian worldview in the nineteenth century.
The professionalization and institutionalization of science during the nineteenth century.
Einstein and relativity, Watson, Crick and DNA, continental drift and modern cosmology.
The variety of methods which people have used for understanding the natural world.
This is a test project for using a wiki as a collaborative learning tool. It's a high-tech variant of class participation/discussion where the course goal is to create documents that are created by everyone in the class. Don't worry--there's no way you can break anything. If you want, play for a while in the sandbox to see how you can create content.
