Welcome to NASC 401, Truman State University, Spring 2009.

 

Course Overview

 

This course covers the history of science from roughly 1700 until the mid-twentieth century. Topics include:

 

  • Isaac Newton and his influence on eighteenth century science.

  • The transformation of the Newtonian worldview in the nineteenth century.

  • The professionalization and institutionalization of science during the nineteenth century.

  • Einstein and relativity, Watson, Crick and DNA, continental drift and modern cosmology.

  • The variety of methods which people have used for understanding the natural world. 

     

Why this Wiki?

 

This is a test project for using a wiki as a collaborative learning tool. It's a high-tech variant of class participation/discussion where the course goal is to create documents that are created by everyone in the class. Don't worry--there's no way you can break anything. If you want, play for a while in the sandbox to see how you can create content.
